Beiersdorf - INTERVISTA JUNIOR
INTERVISTA JUNIOR
Nunzia Zaccaro
29 years old
Master’s Degree in Business Economics (course of studies: Business Management and Information Systems)
Hiring date: March 2007
How did you join the company?
I arrived in Beiersdorf in 2007 for an internship in Human Resources and I helped the Recruiting, Training and Development Manager in her main activities, such as recruitment of young and senior employees, organization of training courses, job posting on the company website, maintenance of performance review tool.
Which is your current position in Beiersdorf?
I still work in the Human Resources Department and now I’m Compensation and Benefit Specialist, so I work on the pay policy, variable pay, labour law issues and also with works council representatives, together with the Human Resources Director.
Can you describe your career path within the company?
After a six month internship, I’ve been hired with a fixed term contract and, after 18 months of experience, with a permanent contract. I’ve worked in two areas of Human Resources, one so called “soft” and the other. “hard” and I’ve really appreciated both of them for the variety of themes and aspects I could face: in every area of the company you can rely on more experienced colleagues and add your personal ideas in order to innovate the business.
How Beiersdorf helped you in your professional development?
I think I received a good opportunity to grow up quickly in a changing environment: in few years my responsibilities have risen and this has been a real challenge for me. Through the cooperation of some colleagues working in my area or in other areas of the company, I’ve learned a lot of things and I’ve built my experience in a multinational company.
Which skills have you acquired?
Working in Beiersdorf I’ve learned to be multitasking, open to suggestions and always ready to face people related issues: they are our internal client and need support from our side. Thanks to a development program offered by the company, I could understand better my way of working and also my attitudes for some functional areas and I think this can be the basis for next steps in my career.
Did you face any difficulty?
I’ve arrived here for an internship: this wasn’t my first experience in a big company, but what I felt from the first days in Beiersdorf was a very collaborative atmosphere. Of course you have to understand who is responsible for the main activities and there are many procedures as in other multinational companies, but this organization of the work helps you very much because you know soon who can help you.
How is the work environment?
The work environment is supportive and sometimes you feel like in a big family; I really appreciate also the occasions of teamwork with colleagues of other functions when we are focused on some important projects, because everyone brings his own hits and you manage different points of view to achieve a goal.
What do you appreciate the most of this experience?
I appreciate that I can propose my ideas and if they are consistent and valid, can become solutions and innovative approaches: even if you are young your voice is heard and considered
According to your experience, which is the value of working in a company like Beiersdorf?
I think that the main values are an international approach, an open-mindedness and the right level of complexity in managed activities
How has your education helped you in your work experience?
I was very lucky because I’ve found a job in line with my background at university: I studied economics with a particular focus on human resources management and so my dream was to bring my theoretical knowledge in a real work experience.
What could you advice to those who are approaching the business world?
Be serious and reliable even if very young and let people appreciate your qualities, by showing your interest and your passion for your job and for the company.
